Those stern Victorian faces! 😀 Next Seattle History Walk, Saturday May 17, starting 11:00 AM at West Seattle's Birthplace of Seattle monument on Alki Avenue, foot of 63rd Avenue SW. 90 minutes +/- walk (sidewalks only) exploring local and world events of the past sixteen thousand years that created modern Seattle. We’ll talk about why these old pioneers gathered for a commemoration at Alki Beach in 1905, instead of say, the more logical semi-centennial date of 1901. Why an Alki Point monument was placed at Alki Beach. And why was the “Birthplace of Seattle” celebrated at a place that didn’t include Seattle in its name until 1888? We’ll end the walk at an Alki Beach watering hole for refreshments and further conversation about Seattle history for anyone interested. No sign up necessary. Just show up.
